After a very busy spring we have arived in the month June. In the last months three probes entered orbit around Mars succesfully, two landers landed and deployed their rovers and one helicopter flew through the Martian sky for the first time ever. In the mean time the Mars Society Netherlands managed to put together an exciting online event!

Activities: Summer Conference 

On june 28th the Mars Society Netherlands is organizing a conference around the theme ‘Happy and Healthy Living on Mars’! We've found a couple of inspiring speakers willing to give presentations about this subject. Recommended: Planetary Geoscience

If you're interested in the stuff Mars is made of, the book 'Planetary Geoscience' might just be what you need to read. This is a book about the geological processes that formed the planets, moons and other bodies moving through our solar system and the processes that shape their faces up until today. The book is based upon a course on the subject thought at the University of Tennessee. The first chapters focus on the techniques we use for exploring and mapping the surfaces of the heavenly bodies. The second section of the book teaches about the processes that formed those bodies. The next chapters are about the geological processes that happen in the different parts of planets and moons and how those processes leave their traces on their surfaces. The last part of the book will spark most joy in the readers of this newsletter. Here all what we have learned before is put into practice by a case studie focussing on Mars. This is a scientific textbook, so expect no easy reading. Also a lot of pre-existing knowledge is expected. But every chapter has an extensive list of referenced literature, that you can look up if you want to dive deeper in a subject. And if the text turns out too difficult to comprehend, the many accompanying beautiful graphs, maps, illustrations and pictures will help you a lot.

	Salts Could Be Important Piece of Martian Organic Puzzle A NASA team has found that organic salts are likely present on Mars. Like shards of ancient pottery, these salts are the chemical remnants of organic compounds, such as those previously detected by NASA’s Curiosity rover. Organic compounds and salts on Mars could have formed by geologic processes or be remnants of ancient microbial life.

The folks at ABIBOO Studio and SONet are putting out the welcome mat and presenting their vision for what might become the first capital city on Mars, housing up to 250,000 residents.
	NASA's Curiosity rover spots strange, colorful clouds on Mars It might look like a postcard from Arizona, but this snapshot shows something much more exotic: the planet Mars, as seen by NASA's Curiosity rover. The image is a combination of 21 individual photographs the rover took recently to study a strange type of wispy cloud over its Gale Crater home. Scientists realized two Earth years ago that the cloud type was forming earlier in the Martian year than they expected.
